I have been watching Grace Barnett since she started her YouTube channel, and I am extremely honoured to have had the opportunity to interview Grace. If you haven't seen any of Grace's amazing videos your definitely missing out! I hope you enjoy this interview with one of my all time favourite YouTubers, and hopefully there will be more to come.
YouTube
Grace ia a sixten-year-old rider and YouTuber from New Jersey. Grace originally got into YouTube with Kelsey, her friend who used to be invloved in the channel. Grace mentioned that Kelsey was very into editing and was extremly good at it. Grace got some of her inspiration for videos from getting "really into the whole beauty-vlogger side of YouTube." Grace wanted to remain invloved in the channel her and Kelsey had created she began combining the beauty/vlogger side of YouTube, with the equestrian side as well. Grace also gets her video ideas from many requests from her viewers/subscribers. Grace says that being an equestrian YouTuber has helped keep her motivated. "When I feel like I’m not really going anywhere or where it’s pointless to even try and move forward with my riding, I like to look through all my social media and old videos and it’s just very humbling." Grace's main goal for her channel is to reach 20,000 subscribers. Some tips from Grace for anyone getting into YouTube are: "Take time with your videos, don’t just rush through to upload a million videos a week. Editing software is your BEST FRIEND, go through and cut out anything extra that really doesn’t need to be there (MAJOR TIP: the ideal video length is between 5-8 minutes!) Also, adding a bit of subtle background music can make all the difference for any video, but make sure you add it when editing (don’t just play music while you film, it doesn’t sound good.) Finally, speak up, look in the camera, don’t play with your hair, and take advantage of natural lighting!" Grace uploads a new video every Tuesday, but she did mention that she might be uploading a bit more often where she is on summer break.
Riding
Barnett has been riding for approximately ten years on and off. Grace leases a Thoroughbred named Nelson and has for a few years, "I began leasing Nelson since eighth grade, so about three years". Grace also rides English and in specific the hunters. Barnett looks up to Sara Ladley, the owner of the fabulous company Hunt Club Barnett said Ladley was "all around amateur GOALS". Grace also said that Ladley was very relatable and "she makes a very good role model for people out there who want to remain in the equestrian world after aging out." Barnett said that her dream clinicians include the very well known George Morris, Kent Farrington and Beezie Madden. One of Barnetts riding must- haves is her Ecogold Flip Half Pad, "I literally never ride wihout it!" Grace's main goal for her riding is "I just want to get to a place where I’m totally happy and confident with my skills."
