With show season just around the corner, the excitement comes with show nerves. Every time I go to a show I always get nervous, I ask my self questions like: What if I forgot something? What if I blanked out on course? (which has happened to me) What if I didn't wake up in time? I have gotten better at managing my nerves and I would like to share my tricks with you guys.
#1: Visualize riding the course. This trick has helped me because I can picture myself riding the course before diving in, it helps me develop the idea as to whats to come.
#2: Set several alarms the night before the show. I find setting about five alarms helps me reassure myself that I am not going to be late for the show, which is every riders worst nightmare.
#3: Remind yourself that your life does not depend on this one show. I always try to remind myself that showing is a learning experience and that no matter how I do I learned something new. I think that reminding myself of this it helps to ease the pressure.
#4: Bring ear phones. I find if I listen to music before my round helps me relax and keeps me focused. I listening to relaxing songs to help calm me down.
#5: Make a checklist. I always make a checklist to make sure I have everything done before the show. I think that making these checklists helps me remind and reassure myself that I have everything that I need.
